Anddddd we've arrived!
Within minutes of pilling into a taxi cab
to make our way to the hotel, I was amazed at the beautiful and luscious
landscape that surrounded us. How GREEN! The rolling grass fields quickly
pushed the concrete jungle we left behind from my mind. And for good
reason! This gorgeous 75 degree weather with the sun shining had my
spirits high, despite having just groggily rolled off the airplane less than an
hour before. The weather is beautiful. The scenery is divine. What else do
you have in store for me Poland?
Next, we arrive at the hotel. Rooms are
not ready so we take to the streets to find a much needed coffee and some food.
The streets are alive on this relaxing Sunday. Families bustle around with
children on pedal-less bikes. Grandma and grandpa are out for a stroll
after morning Mass. And everyone is holding flowers. Beautiful flowers -
ranging in colors from reds to pinks to whites with accent greens surrounding
the blooming beauty. What a lively sight to see.
I can't help but notice how charming the
architecture is. It perfectly captures the life and soul of this
Polish city and the people who live here. The perfect, rectangular
windows, line the buildings opening the rooms within to the city streets. The
long, pointed rooftops finish each building off like a bow on a present. Each
one holds individuality from color to length to height to size. Combined, you
create a tangle of city lined streets with unimposing architectural
beauty.
As the afternoon shadows linger
longer and longer, we stumble across the Wista River, which was such a pleasant
surprise! There were dozens and dozens of people lining the paths flanking the
river, biking, walking, sunbathing and chatting. It was clear to see the Poles
were enjoying this gorgeous Sunday as much as I was! To top off a splendid
afternoon, we grab a seat in a reclining chair in the sun at Barka, a quaint
little boat bar on the water. Along with many others, we enjoy a cool glass of
crisp Rosé, taking in the sites and enjoying the breeze.
Poland, although it hasn’t been long, I
can tell you’ll be full of surprises this week so, please, carry on.
